To conserve paper and ink, you might want to print only a portion of a document, email, or web page. We will discuss different methods of printing segments from a website, document, or email for Mac and Windows users. The print options available to you depend entirely on the application you are using. Learn how to circumvent these limitations by converting webpages, documents, and emails to PDFs.
Printing Selections of a Web page, Doc, or Email
- Press Ctrl + P (Windows) or Cmd + P (Mac) to open the Print Preview window.
- In the Print Preview window, select the Range or Selection option. In Word, you can also opt to print your current selection or the current page.
- Enter the range using commas to separate pages and dashes to designate ranges.
Steps
-
Select the text and/or images you would like to print in Microsoft Word. This option is available in Microsoft Word for Mac and Windows. Instead of printing an entire Microsoft Word document, select the content or images you wish to print. You can only make one selection at a time.
-
Click the File menu and select Print. Mac users can use the shortcut ⌘ Command+P; Windows users can use the shortcut Ctrl+P.Advertisement
-
Choose Selection (Mac) or Print Selection (Windows). Mac users can find “Selection” in the “Pages” section; Windows users can find “Print Selection” in the “Settings” section. The preview on the right of the dialog box should only display the text and/or graphics you highlighted.
-
Click Print. Your selected text will print.[1]
- If you want to print the entire document, select "All Pages."
-
Go to the web page you want to print. If you want to print part of a web page, go to that webpage in Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox now.
-
Press ⌘ Command+P (Mac) or Ctrl+P (PC). This opens the Print window in your browser.
-
Select Custom (Firefox, Chrome) or the range option in Edge. In Chrome and Firefox, click the drop-down next to Pages to find the custom option. In Edge, the range option is generally the last option that shows a blank field.[2]
-
Enter the desired range of pages. Insert a dash (-) between the first and last pages of a range. Separate individual pages or page ranges with commas.
- Click through the print preview to make sure all of the pages are there.
- For example: “1, 3-5, 10, 17-20” prints pages 1, 3, 4, 5, 10, 17, 18, 19, and 20.
- If you want to print a sentence or two, go back to the page and select the text you want to print. Right-click it and select Print. You'll see that only your highlighted text appears in the print preview. Press Print.
-
Click Print. The range of pages will now print.
- You can also select all pages to print the entire web page. For more information on this, read How to Print a Webpage on Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox.
-
1Open the website you want to print in Safari. Safari provides its users with the option to print one page.
-
2Choose File then Print. You can also type in the shortcut ⌘ Command+P.
-
3Under "Pages" select Selection or Range. You'll see the same print dialogue for some other programs, like Mail.
-
4Enter the page range you wish to print or make your selection from the sidebar. A blue check mark on the page's thumbnail means the page will print.
-
5Click Print. Your selected page(s) will now print.[3]
-
Scroll to the page you would like to print in Word. You can open a document by going to File > Open or you can right-click on a document in your file manager to open it in Word.

-
Scroll through the document and identify the pages you would like to print. This option is available in Microsoft Word and Google Docs for Mac and Windows. This print feature is useful when you need to print several nonconsecutive sections from a document. The pages do not need to be consecutive.
-
Click the File menu and select Print. Mac users can use the shortcut ⌘ Command+P; Windows users can use the shortcut Ctrl+P.
-
Select Page Range (Mac) or Custom Print (Windows). This will allow you to use the "Custom" or blank text field to designate which pages to print.

-
Enter the page numbers you would like to print. Separate individual pages or page ranges with commas and place a dash (-) between the first and last pages of a range.
- For example: “1, 3-5, 10, 17-20”, “5, 11-12, 14-16”, or “10, 29”.[5]
- Click through the preview to make sure all of the pages you wish to print are included.

Select the page you would like to print (if you chose the custom field). Use dashes (-) to separate ranges, and commas (,) to separate pages.
- For example, "1, 3-5, 10" will print pages 1, 3, 4, 5, and 10.
-
Click Print. The single page or your selection will print.[8]
- You can also print attachments, entire emails, and calendars.

-
4Enter the range of pages you would like to print if you selected "Range." You need to enter a range for the fields "Range from" and "to."
- For example, "Range from 1 to 5" will print pages 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Whereas "Range 1 to 2" will only print pages 1 and 2.
-
5Click Print. The range of pages will print.
