Create a new blank document in Microsoft Word. To do this, open Microsoft Word and click the Blank document option under "New" in the Word home screen. This method will import the EMZ file into a Word document, and it works on both Windows and Mac. After inserting the file in Word, you can save the image as a PNG file.
- This method will not work in the free online Microsoft 365 version of Word. You'll need the desktop version of Word, which you need to have a paid subscription to access.
- This method also works in free word processors such as LibreOffice, though the steps may vary slightly.

Click Insert. This option is at the top of the window, above the ribbon.
- If you're on an older version of Word, you will see the Insert button at the top of the screen, and it will open a drop-down menu.

Click Pictures. If you're on a newer version of Word, you'll want to click This device… in the dropdown menu that appears.
- If you're on an older version of Word, the menu option might say Image instead.

Open your EMZ file. Navigate to where the EMZ file is saved on your device, and either double-click it to open it or click the image and click Insert.^{[2]

- If you don't want to convert your EMZ file to a PNG, you can stop here.
The EMZ file will be inserted into your document as an image. If you're on a Mac, you may need to press Ctrl while clicking to right-click.
This will allow you to save the EMZ file as a PNG image. Choose a location to save the image, and give the image a name if you'd like.

Download and install 7-Zip. Go to 7-zip.org and click Download next to the version of 7-Zip that you'd like to download—either 64-bit or 32-bit. A pop-up box will appear for the download location.
- Once the installer has downloaded, run it to install 7-Zip. Follow the instructions in the installer to complete the installation.
You can open it from the Start menu or by typing the name into your taskbar search bar.

Navigate to the EMZ file. This program works just like the native file manager on your computer.
- If you're not sure how to find the EMZ file, follow this path: Computer > C: (or whatever your main drive letter is) > Users > [your username]. From this folder, you can navigate to the folder you saved your EMZ file in (probably your Downloads or Documents folder).

Select your EMZ file and click the extract button. This is at the top of the window and looks like a blue minus button. A window will pop up with options such as the extraction location.
- By default, 7-Zip will extract the EMZ file to a folder in the parent folder that's named the same as the filename.
The files inside the EMZ file will be extracted into the location you specified in the previous step.

Open the folder containing the extracted file. The file will now be in EMF format. EMF files can be opened by a photo viewer or photo editing software and inserted into Word or PowerPoint files.^{[3]

Download and install XnView MP. XnView MP is a free, advanced file viewer that works on Windows, Mac, and Linux. XnView MP is considered freeware; it's free to download and use, but you must pay for a license if you're using XnView MP as a commercial company.
- Go to XnView MP's download page.
- Download the version that works for your operating system.
- Save the installer somewhere on your computer (such as your Downloads folder).
- Run the installer once it's downloaded, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Once the installer is done, you can choose the option to open XnView MP. If you opted not to do this, you can open it from your Start Menu or by searching for the program in the taskbar search bar.
When you first open XnView MP, there will be a setup window that opens. Choose the settings you'd prefer, then click OK to confirm them and open XnView MP.
Your file browser will open.

Open your EMZ file. Navigate to where your file is located, then double-click it to open it. You can also click on the file, then click Open.
- If you don't want to convert the EMZ file, you can stop here.

Click Tools > Batch Convert. The Batch Convert menu will open to the Output tab.
- You can add files to the conversion by clicking the Input tab and pressing Add.

Change the file format from the drop-down list. This is on the right-hand side under the header Format.
- You can alter any settings here.

Click Convert.
- Your files will be saved in the converted format in the location selected. This defaults to the same location your files originally came from.
