What are some common anime character archetypes?
- The clueless hero: These are usually the protagonists in fantasy anime, like Luffy in One Piece. They’re super strong and overpowered, and their only weakness is how dumb they can be, but they always have hearts of gold.
- The casual mentor: These are characters who usually teach the hero. They’re super powerful and overqualified, but they’re also usually pretty terrible at teaching, but that’s what makes them so attractive.
- The icy cool character: These are loner types who are usually confident and collected. They’re often rivals to the hero, and ironically, the hero is usually the only person who can get them to show some sort of emotion beyond “totally calm.”
- The overconfident rival: This is another rival archetype. They’re usually loud, brash, and not afraid to say what they mean. They put on a tough guy act, but they usually end up on the hero’s side.
- The chilled out character: These characters are totally calm and collected. Nothing much moves them, and it’s hard to get a rise out of them. That is, until the people they love are in danger.
-
The shy characters: These are super common in anime. They’re usually loner outcasts who are just looking for the right person to come along and pull them out of their shells.
What are the 5 types of anime?
- Kodomomuke: Lighthearted, long-running series usually aimed at young kids, with lots of adventure and comedy.
- Shounen: Epic adventure series usually aimed at boys, with strong protagonists and a wide variety of genres, like fantasy or sci-fi.
- Shoujo: Like shounen, but usually aimed at girls and with more romance and drama.
- Seinen: Seinen anime is like the older version of shounen, with more mature and darker stories.
- Josei: Again, this is like the older version of shoujo, often dealing with more mature types of romance and drama.
