If you want to share a TikTok with a bunch of your friends, using a group chat makes it so much easier. Group chats on TikTok used to only be available for a few users, but now they’re available for everyone and they’re simple to create. Keep reading, and we’ll walk you through the basics of making a TikTok group chat, as well as some alternative ways to share your favorite videos.

How to Make a GC on TikTok

When you find a video to share with friends, tap the “Share” icon on the right side of the screen. Choose which friends you want to add, and select the “Create group chat with friends” option before sending your message.

How to Make a Group Chat on TikTok from Your Inbox

  1. Open the TikTok app and select the Inbox icon from the menu at the bottom of the screen. From here, you’ll see all of your direct messages and have the option to start a group chat.
  2. Look for the icon that looks like 2 people with a plus sign (+) and tap on it. This brings up a pop-up menu for starting a new message or group chat with your friends.[1]
    • Alternatively, choose a chat you’ve already started with your friend, tape the 3 dots in the top right corner, and select Create group chat from the menu.

  3. You can only add people that you follow and also follow you to a group chat. Choose the people from your friends list that you want to include.[2]
    • Up to 32 people can be in a group chat, so you can invite up to 31 other friends.
  4. The new group chat will appear in your inbox right away so you can start sharing videos with a group of friends.

How to Make Group Chats with the Share Button

  1. The icon looks like a curved-arrow near the bottom-right corner of the video. This opens the Send To menu, which allows you to share the video with others.
    • Alternatively, long press on the video, and a menu will appear on the screen. Click Share with to open the different options for sending the video.
  2. You'll see the profile pics of several of your TikTok friends at the top of the Send To menu. Tap the profile photo of each friend you want to add to the chat.
    • If you don't see everyone you want to add, scroll to the right and tap More to see a full list of your TikTok friends. Scroll through the list or type their name in the search bar at the top.
  3. As soon as you choose multiple people you want to send the video to, the option will appear at the bottom of your screen. Tap on the circle next to the option to start the group message.[3]
    • If you don’t select this option before hitting send, then the video will be sent to each person separately.
  4. If you want to say anything about the video (or let your friends know that you're creating a group chat), type your own message into the "Write a message” text box at the bottom of the screen.
  5. This sends the selected video (and your message, if you wrote one) to the friends you selected in a new group chat. If you want to confirm that it worked, then head over to your Inbox. The group chat icon will have all the profile pictures of the friends you added.

  1. Open up the the group chat on your device and click on the 3 dots in the top-right corner. From there, you have access to multiple settings for your group chat.
    • Click on Change Name to rename the group chat. Anyone in your group can change the name again later on.
    • Tap Mute group to silence message notifications.a
    • Choose Pin to top if you want the group chat at the top of your inbox when you open it.
    • Select Share group to send the group chat to other users or share a link to the chat using different apps.
    • Click Leave group to remove yourself from the chat.
    • Tap on Add members to invite other TikTok friends to the message.
    • Select the flag icon if you need to report the group chat for any inappropriate messages or behavior.
  2. You can have up to 32 people in your group chat. You can select everyone when you first start the group chat, or you can add people later on if you missed someone.
  3. You may not have group chats if you’re between 13 and 15. Group chats are only available to users who are 16 and older, so the feature will not appear in your app if you’re any younger.[4]

Alternatives to TikTok Group Chats

  1. Whether you're using an Android, iPhone, or iPad, you can easily create a group text containing everyone you want to share TikToks with. Then simply share the links to your favorite TikTok videos directly to the chat.
    • Tap the Share icon on a video you want to share with a group of friends.[6]
    • Tap SMS on the Send To screen. This opens a new text message.
    • Type the names of your contacts or enter their phone numbers for who you want to send the TikTok to.
    • Tap the Send button to send the message.
    • When you want to send another video to the chat, tap Share on a video, select Copy link, and paste the link to the video in the group conversation.
  2. TikTok makes it easy to share videos with other Instagram users through Direct Messages or by posting to your Story.
    • Tap Share on a video.
    • Tap More on the Send To screen.
    • Tap Instagram Direct.
    • Select the people you want to add to the chat and tap Share to form the group chat
    • To send more videos to the same chat later, just tap Share on a video, select Copy link, and paste it into the existing chat.
    • Alternatively, select Instagram from the list to post it as a Reel or Story on your profile.
  3. If you're using WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, or any other platform that allows you to create group chats, you can easily send a TikTok video to the whole group at once. Just tap Share on a video, select Copy link, and paste the link into the chat.
    • The video will either open in the TikTok app if the other person has the app, or they will be able to view it from a web browser.
