In Minecraft, it is fun to build tall structures, but getting to high places can be difficult. Luckily, it is easy to craft scaffolding blocks that allow you to climb with ease. This wikiHow article teaches you how to make scaffolding in Minecraft.

Things You Should Know

You can make 6 scaffolding blocks from 6 bamboo sticks and 1 string using a crafting table.
Placing a scaffolding block inside of another will place it on top of the scaffolding structure.
Stand in the center of the scaffolding block and hold the jump button to ascend to the top of the scaffolding structure.

Gather bamboo. Bamboo is most commonly found in jungle biomes. It grows densely in sections of jungle called bamboo jungles. They are tall, green sticks that grow out of the ground. Break them with your hands or a tool, then pick up the bamboo shoots. You need at least 6 bamboo shoots to make scaffolding.
- Alternatively, you can find bamboo inside structures in jungles. Pandas also drop bamboo when killed.

Gather string. You can gather string by killing spiders. You can also use a crafting table to convert cobwebs into strings. You need at least 1 string.
- Spiders spawn all through the Minecraft overworld at night.

You can craft a crafting table from 4 wooden plank blocks, which can be crafted using any kind of wood. Place a crafting table anywhere in the game world and then right-click it (or squeeze the left trigger button) to open the crafting table menu.
To do so, place 6 bamboo shoots along the right and left columns of the 3x3 crafting grid. Then, place a string in the top-middle space of the 3x3 crafting grid. Drag the scaffolding blocks into your inventory. This will craft 6 scaffolding blocks.^{[1]

To place a scaffolding block, open your inventory and place your scaffolding blocks in your action bar. Select the corresponding action bar space to hold the scaffolding. Aim where you want to place the scaffolding and right-click or squeeze the left trigger button to place a scaffolding block.
Unlike other blocks, scaffolding blocks can be stacked while standing on the ground. Simply equip your scaffolding blocks, aim at a scaffolding block sitting on the ground, and place another scaffolding block. This will place it on top of the highest scaffolding block in the stack.

Place scaffolding blocks on the side. You can place scaffolding blocks on the side of a scaffolding stack by aiming at the side of a scaffolding block you want to place it on and placing it, or by standing on top of a scaffolding block and aiming just outside the edge you want to place a scaffolding block and placing it.
- Scaffolding blocks can be placed above ground on the side of a scaffolding stack up to 6 blocks out from the central support stack. Placing blocks any further out will cause them to fall to the ground.
You will notice you can walk through scaffolding blocks. Stand in the center of the scaffolding stack and hold the jump button to ascend to the top.
When you are done using scaffolding, you can tear it down. Attack the bottom scaffolding block with your hands or a tool or weapon to do so. This will drop that block and all scaffolding blocks stacked on top of it. You can pick them up and use them again later.

Alternatively, you can craft ladders and use them to reach high places. However, ladders need a wall or solid block to be placed against. Scaffolding can be stacked independently.
