New to Garry's Mod? Want to add some of those cool addons which your friends have been using, such as the quite annoying, but fun to use, Vuvuzela addon? Installing addons to Garry's Mod is fairly simple. Read on to learn how!

Addons can be downloaded from various websites, the most popular of which is GarrysMods.org.

If the file(s) is/are zip/rar files, use a file extraction program such as WinRAR to un-zip/rar them; otherwise, leave them alone.
If not, they will typically have several files contained within a main folder (please note: some addons may have unnecessary folders containing the main folder, in such a case you should remove the main folder from the folders containing it.) Extract this main folder to c:\program files\steam\steamapps\yoursteamname\garrysmod\garrysmod\addons.

How can I do this in a less complicated way?

Press shift+tab in-game. This should bring up a steam overlay. Click the "workshop" button in the right-top corner. This should open up a workshop where you can find and download add-ons to your game for free, simply by clicking the download button.

What if my GMod is not on steam?

If you are talking about the Half-Life 2 mod version, GMod add-ons/mods can be installed the same way. This does not work on pirated versions.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are currently using Windows 7 (and possibly Vista) as your OS, you may need to add (x86) to \program files\ when extracting to the Garry's Mod "addons" folder.
