If you have an iPhone, you may be wondering if you can separate your phone's ringer and alarm volumes. Unfortunately, this is not a feature on iPhones. You can, however, adjust your iPhone's ringer and alarm volume in the Settings app, and you can allow the side buttons to control your ringer/alarm volume so you can change it on the fly. Keep reading to learn more.
Steps
Setting Different Sounds For Each Alarm
-
Open the Clock app. You can do this by tapping the Clock app on your Home Screen, from the App Library, or by pulling down from the upper-right corner to open the Control Center and tapping the timer icon (between the flashlight and calculator).
-
Tap the Alarms button. It's at the bottom of the screen and is the second option on the list (between World Clock and Stopwatch). It has an icon of an alarm clock.
-
Tap on any one of your alarms. This will pull up the alarm's settings.
-
Tap the Sound option. If you've never changed your alarm's sound, it will say Alarm.
-
Choose a new ringtone for your alarm. Tapping on a ringtone will play it so you can preview what it sounds like. Press < Back once you're happy with your choice.
- Tap Classic at the bottom of the list for even more ringtone options.
- Tap Tone Store to visit the Apple ringtone store to purchase more ringtones.
- Tap Download All Purchased Tones if you've previously purchased ringtones but they're not showing up to choose.
- Try making a custom ringtone sound if you want to use your favorite song or sound effect as an alarm.
Changing Ringer & Alarm Volume in Settings
-
Open the Settings app. The app icon is gray and has a series of gears. By default, this app is in the dock at the bottom of your Home Screen.
-
Tap on Sounds & Haptics. The icon is a speaker with a red background. You'll have to scroll a bit to find this option.
-
Drag the slider to adjust the volume. Your phone will play a sample sound so you can hear how loud the ringer/alarm will be.[1]
Changing Ringer & Alarm Volume with Buttons
-
Open the Settings app. The app icon is gray and has a series of gears. By default, this app is in the dock at the bottom of your Home Screen.
-
Tap on Sounds & Haptics. The icon is a speaker with a red background. You'll have to scroll a bit to find this option.
-
Toggle on Change with Buttons. Now, when you press the volume buttons on the side of your device, you will adjust the volume of the ringer and alarm instead of your iPhone volume.
- If you're currently listening to something, the volume buttons will instead adjust the iPhone volume. To change your ringer and alarm volume, pause your music or video.
