If you're a Fortnite player, you may have seen the term "Battle Stars" mentioned, especially in regards to the Battle Pass. But what exactly are Battle Stars, how do you get them, and how do you use them? Battle Stars are awarded automatically when you level up the Battle Pass, and you use them to claim Battle Pass items in whatever order you want. In this article we go over how to get and use Battle Stars in depth, as well as list how many Battle Stars each item type costs.

Earning & Using Fortnite Battle Stars

  • For every Battle Pass level you earn, you get 5 Battle Stars.
  • Battle Stars are used to claim Battle Pass items in any order you want.
  • Each Battle Pass gives the exact amount of Battle Stars needed to redeem all the items.
  • Unused stars are used to claim Battle Pass items you unlocked once the season ends.

How to Get Battle Stars

  1. Each Battle Pass level you gain will give you 5 Battle Stars. You'll get these stars whether you purchase the Battle Pass or not, but you can only use Battle Stars to buy items you have access to.[1]
    • To get the most out of your Battle Stars, you'll need to purchase the Battle Pass.
    • Each Battle Pass will grant the exact amount of Battle Stars needed to purchase all of the items in the pass. You still need to get to level 100 to get all of the Battle Pass items.
      • As such, Battle Stars can't be used to buy items you wouldn't normally get anyway. However, you can use Battle Stars to pick which items you want to get first instead of getting the Battle Pass items in the order they're listed in the pass.

  1. If you have the free version of the Battle Pass, only certain items will be available to purchase with Battle Stars. If you have the paid version, you can get all of the items.
  2. Your Battle Star balance is listed in the top-right corner of the screen. If you don't have enough Battle Stars to purchase the item you want to get, you'll need to level up your Battle Pass more. You get 5 Battle Stars for each Battle Pass level gained.
    • If you don't spend your Battle Stars by the time the season ends, the game will automatically redeem them for any unpurchased items that you earned. The items will be redeemed in chronological order.
      • If you have the free Battle Pass and have more stars than you need to get all the items available to you, the extra stars will be removed. You cannot carry Battle Stars over between Battle Passes.
