Fruits Basket is a romantic comedy manga series created by Natsuki Takaya and originally published by Hakushensha. It was released from July 1998 to November 2006. It also received its first anime adaptation in 2001, then a reboot anime in 2019, then a film in 2022.
What is Fruits Basket about?
Fruits Basket focuses on protagonist Tohru Honda, whose life is shaken by tragedy when her mother dies in a car accident. Not wanting to be a burden on her grandfather, Tohru decides to live in a tent in the forest, where she finds the house of one of her classmates, Yuki, who lives with his many cousins. But these cousins aren’t ordinary people—they’re possessed by the spirits of the Chinese zodiac, and can transform into their animal forms! Now, Tohru lives with the cousins and must navigate her new, enchanted life filled with drama, romance, tragedy, and hope.
