As index cards are thicker and sturdier than usual paper, they are great for making 3D origami, like large birds, teddy bears, and other large items that require stiff, small folds. They also work for smaller origami projects, like hearts, planes, and boats.

Want inspiration for origami to make with index cards? Here's a list to get you started.
  • Jumping frog
  • Crane
  • Boat
  • Flower
  • Heart
  • Envelope
  • Butterfly
  • Bookmarks

Check out this step-by-step guide to make an origami jumping frog.
  1. Place the index card vertically in front of you. Fold the top right corner down diagonally until the top of the card meets the left side.
  2. Unfold the card and do the same with the top left corner. These folds should create four triangles at the top of your card.
  3. Grasp the right and left edges of the card at the midpoint of the right and left triangles and fold the two sides inward until you're able to press the top of the card all the way down.
  4. The top of the card should now be a layered triangle, with flaps on top. Fold the right flap of the triangle up to the top corner of the triangle. Do the same with the left flap.
  5. Fold the right edge of your index card into the middle so that the right edge meets the vertical center line. Do the same with the left edge.
  6. Fold the bottom of the card up so that it slightly passes the top, then halfway back down again to meet the new fold at the bottom.
  7. Turn the frog over and it's done! You can make it jump by gently pressing the back of the frog down with your finger and sliding it off.
