How to get rid of dark circles under my eyes
Hey ya’ll! I feel like the past few years I’ve noticed that I get dark circles under my eyes more often than I used to. It’s kind of at the point where I feel like I notice them every day and they make me look so tired and old and I hate it. I tried moisturizing the area under my eyes every day but it doesn’t really seem to be working. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to fix this? I’d like to get rid of the dark circles permanently (and preferably, naturally), but I’m open to any and all advice. Thanks in advance!

The first thing I'll say is prevention is easier than correction so start by ensuring you're properly hydrated and getting enough sleep. Dehydration and lack of sleep worsen dark circles. Drink enough water and aim for quality rest. Sun protection is also important so try to wear an SPF daily to prevent sun damage that can darken under-eye skin. I recommend using an SPF 30+ eye cream.
Here are some additional tips for correction & treatment:
1. Cold Compress – Reduces puffiness and constricts blood vessels. Try chilled spoons, cucumber slices, or cold tea bags.
2. Caffeine Eye Creams – Helps reduce puffiness and improve circulation.
3. Retinol & Peptides – Strengthen skin and boost collagen to minimize darkness over time.
4. Vitamin C Serum – Brightens and evens skin tone.
5. Color Corrector & Concealer – Specifically, peach or orange tones counteract blue/purple circles.
6. Allergy Management – Treating allergies can reduce under-eye darkness caused by inflammation.
7. Professional Treatments – Laser, chemical peels, and fillers can help if circles are due to hollowness or pigmentation.
Dark circles can be caused by genetics, lifestyle, or skin thinning, so multiple approaches may be needed.

Are you getting enough sleep? Seriously, get your eight hours in! That will help reduce this problem quite a bit. You can also reduce the circles by adjusting your diet. Cut back on anything that causes inflammation, like processed food and red meat. Then, add things to your diet that are anti-inflammatory in nature, like turmeric, berries, and nuts. The other big thing is to drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated will help keep any dark eye circles in check. In terms of covering the circles up, you can obviously use makeup, but for treatment, I recommend any kind of restorative eye cream that contains caffeine. Those are generally very good at minimizing the visual impact of circles and helping the skin heal.

You could try a Mandelic Acid Serum or Retinol on your dark patches. Areas like your knees that are exposed to the sun should have sunscreen applied to them. To really help with the dark patches, I recommend finding an esthetician to help you pick the best chemical peel.
You can lessen under-eye darkness by doing a little lymphatic drainage. Begin by applying a thin layer of eye cream, serum, or a light facial oil - enough so that you don't tug or drag the skin under the eye. Bend your index finger and use the flat surface of the middle knuckle. With feather-light pressure, stroke outwards from the inner corner of your eye, following the lower orbital bone to your temples. Repeating this gentle motion several times helps move stagnant fluid, a common contributor to dark circles. You can also buy special lymphatic brushes that are phenomenal for reducing dark circles.

I tried a ton of different things, like getting more sleep, changing my diet, and applying eye creams, and didn't have any luck. I realized my dark circles were genetic :( So when I don't want them I just cover them with concealer

Drinking more water helped my dark circles. I found it hard to drink plain so I made hydrating more interesting for me by drinking tea and blended fruits.

I know it can be hard to cut down on screen time, especially if you work from home like me, but incorporating more screen breaks and limiting screen time outside of my working hours helped my dark circles.

If you're interested in trying out brightening eye creams, caffeine is a good ingredient, but I'd also consider looking at creams with Vitamin C!
