Facing a fear daily or tackling something you felt you couldn’t do, no matter how small, builds self-confidence. It can be as small as making a phone call or looking someone in the eye or as large as speaking in front of an audience of 150.

Also, make decisions on your own without opinion shopping. We often delegate decisions to others, which undermines our confidence. There are no right or wrong decisions. All decisions can be changed, as long as you reverse course and choose some similar alternative. No decision is permanent. However, making decisions builds confidence in showing yourself that many positive outcomes occur and that you also have the ability to cope with less than ideal outcomes should they occur.

Write daily self-affirmations to remind yourself not to fall into a negativity bias about yourself and your actions. Self-affirmations are statements you make about yourself that demonstrate pride in your ability or actions. Use the affirmations to balance your view of yourself and to help you build evidence of successes and, in turn, build confidence. Review the affirmations you have written in the past weekly.

We’re sorry you’re struggling with your self-esteem lately—believe us, it happens to everyone! Here are some tips to help you regain self-confidence that you can try right now:
  • Focus on your strengths and successes (even the small ones!).
  • Go outside, breathe in the fresh air, feel the sun on your face, and enjoy nature.
  • Take a social media break: it's easy to compare yourself to others when their lives seem perfect on Instagram.
  • Use positive self-talk: try saying I am worthy, I am cool, or Things aren't so bad after all.
  • Move your body: this might help give you some energy.
  • Set boundaries with anyone who might be negatively affecting your self-esteem.
  • Smile: even if you're not feeling it, forcing yourself to smile can actually trick your brain into feeling happier!
  • Talk to friends or family about how you’re feeling: they may be able to cheer you on and help you feel a little better about yourself—or at least keep you company until your doubts go away on their own.
Hang in there, it won’t last forever!
