“B-list” celebrities refer to famous people (usually actors and actresses, but also musicians and athletes) who are well-known, but who aren’t quite at the “massive superstar” status of an A-list celebrity. As a kind of test, anyone whose face and name you know, but who wouldn’t be considered the most famous in their field, is considered a B-list celebrity. The idea of a “B-list” comes from the movie industry. Studios used to make “A-features,” which were their big-money blockbuster flicks, and “B-movies,” which were generally lower quality and simply meant to fill out a film program.
