Did you post a status on WhatsApp? If you made a mistake, you won't be able to edit the status once it's been posted. You'll need to delete the status and create a new one. Luckily, it's easy to do. Here's how to create and edit your status on WhatsApp using your iPhone or Android device.

Editing a Status in WhatsApp

  • You can't edit an existing status, but you can delete it and create a new one.
  • To delete a status, tap the Status tab and tap the status. Tap ••• > Delete.
  • To create a new status, tap the Status tab and tap +. Take a photo or record a video.

    • While you can't edit an existing status, you can create a new one.
    • Statuses will disappear after 24 hours, similar to Snapchat Stories. If you don't want to wait that long for a status to delete, you can manually delete it.
  2. This is at the bottom-left corner (iPhone) or at the top (Android).
    • If WhatsApp opens up to a conversation, tap the back button in the upper-left corner.

  4. Tap the white circle at the bottom of your screen to take a picture, or hold it down to record video.
    • To flip the camera, tap the two curved arrow icons in the bottom-right corner.
    • You can also select a photo or video from your Camera Roll at the bottom-left of your screen to add it to your Status.
  5. Use WhatsApp's tools to add text, emoji, and drawings on your Status update.[2]
    • Tap the Pencil icon in the upper-right corner to make colorful drawings on your Status update.
    • Tap the T icon to add text. You can make your text any color or size, and you can move it around to put it anywhere.
    • Tap the Sticker icon to add a sticker, emoji, or avatar.
    • Tap the Crop button to adjust or crop the picture.
  6. It looks like a tiny paper plane in the lower-right corner of your screen. It will add this update to your Status.
    • To delete a status, return to the Updates tab. Tap your status, and then tap the three-dots icon next to the status. Tap Delete.

  1. This is the tab at the bottom-left corner (iPhone) or at the top (Android).
    • If WhatsApp opens up to a conversation, tap the back button in the upper-left corner.
  2. You'll see them listed from newest to oldest.

  4. This is in the pop-up menu. The status will be deleted.
