Do you want to empty the promotions tab in Gmail and delete all the promo emails at once? Fortunately, this is easy using a web browser on your computer and on your phone or tablet! This wikiHow article teaches you how to delete all promotions in Gmail.

How to Delete Promotions in Gmail

1. Use a web browser instead of the Gmail mobile app.
2. Go to the "Promotions" category.
3. Click the box to select everything on the page, and click "Select all conversations in Promotions."
4. Click the trash can.

   Go to your Gmail inbox and click the Promotions tab. Once you log in, click the "Promotions" inbox from the list of categories on the left side of the window. The "Promotions" tag might be hidden behind a "More" menu, so click that to expand your categories list.

   • This is the easiest and quickest way to clear your Gmail promotion emails. You can use the mobile app to delete promotions manually, but it's faster to delete all promotions at once on a computer.

   Click the box above the first email to select everything on the first page. Only messages on the first page will be selected. For example, if you have Gmail set to show you 50 emails per page, clicking this box will select all 50 emails, even if you have more in the tag.

   Click Select all conversations in Promotions. Doing this will allow you to select more than the first page displays. For example, if there are 2,744 emails in the "Promotions" tag, clicking this option will select them all instead of the first 50.

   . You'll see the trash can icon above the selected emails. Clicking this moves everything that's selected into the Trash.

   Open Gmail and navigate to the "Promotions" category. Tap the app icon that looks like a white and red envelope. Once open, tap the three-line menu icon (hamburger icon) in the top left corner and tap Promotions.

   • This method is time-consuming since there's no option to delete all the emails simultaneously. It's not recommended if you have a lot of promo emails.

   Long-tap a sender's icon to select it. Next to each email is a circular icon that you need to long-tap for it to change to a checkmark, which indicates that it's selected.

   • Continue tapping to select multiple emails.
   • Some Android phones can select up to 50 emails at a time, so tapping Select all at the top might help you if you have fewer promotion emails to get rid of.

   Click Unsubscribe. According to the CAN-SPAM Act from 2003, all promotional emails also have an Unsubscribe option. Gmail sometimes moves the Unsubscribe option to the top of the email, next to the sender's name, but other times, you'll find the button near the bottom of the email, in tiny font.

   • If you don't see the "Unsubscribe" link, you can report and block that email.

   Filter promotions. To create a filter, go to settings. You can make rules so emails from specific addresses go into a specific category or are immediately deleted. Create a filter for promotion emails easily by selecting the emails you'd like to auto-delete in the future, then click the three-dot menu and select Filter messages like these.

   • Confirm your action by clicking Create Filter. Next, choose the action you want to trigger whenever a similar email arrives. For example, select Delete it and Also apply filter to matching conversations to apply the filter to older messages.

   Block or report as spam. If you aren't able to find an "Unsubscribe" button or your filters aren't working, you can block the sender by opening the email, clicking the three-dot menu icon, then selecting Block [emailddress]."

   • You can also click to select the email, then click Report Spam at the top of the browser window. The email will move to your spam folder, and any future emails from that sender will also go to your spam folder.

Tips

• Find hidden promotion emails by searching "Unsubscribe." Although Gmail's default filters work smoothly, they can sometimes mess up and sort mail to categories or inboxes you don't check. Searching "Unsubscribe" will find those hidden emails so you can move them to the "Promotions" category and have all future emails go to the correct category.
