Tether your laptop to your smartphone using Wi-Fi, USB, or Bluetooth
PDF download Download Article

This process of connecting a computer to a smartphone’s internet connection is called "tethering" or “hotspot.” It can be done using Wi-Fi, a USB, or Bluetooth connection. Not all service providers support tethering; if your service provider does support tethering, keep in mind that tethering counts toward your monthly cellular data limit and may result in additional data charges. This wikiHow teaches you how to use your iPhone's or Android's cellular data to connect to the Internet on a computer with expert tips from computer and tech specialist Luigi Oppido.

How to Share Phone Wi-Fi with a Laptop

  1. Turn on the Mobile Hotspot or Personal Hotspot setting on your phone.
  2. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your laptop.
  3. Select your phone's hotspot name.
  4. Type in your hotspot password.
  5. Click Connect to gain Wi-Fi Internet access.
