Do you want to update your X or Twitter display name? This is different from your handle/username, which has the @ symbol. To edit your name on Twitter, you'll use the edit button on your profile. To change your Twitter handle, you'll use your account settings. Here's how to change your name on Twitter (X) using your iPhone, iPad, Android, or computer.

Open the X (Twitter) app.
Tap your profile picture.
Tap Profile.
Tap Edit profile.
Enter a new name.
Tap Save.

Launch the X app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad. This looks like a white x with a black background.
- If you aren't already logged into your account, do so now.
- Use this method to change the name that appears on your profile and is bolded on your posts. If you want to change your username—which is the name after the @ symbol—skip to the next section instead.
You can find this in the top-left corner of the app. The left panel will open.

Enter a new name. Erase your current name (if you have one), and then type a new one.
- Display names can be up to 50 characters long and include emojis or special characters.
This will be in the top-right corner. Your new display name will be saved. It may take some time for it to appear on your posts.

- You may be asked to enter your login information again to verify your identity.

Enter a new username. Tap the field under New to enter it now. Keep in mind this must be between 4 to 15 characters and must be unique.^{[1]

I made a new account to change my name, then realized I didn't need to and deleted it. Now it is saying the name is taken when trying to change the name of my original account.

Look up the name you want your account to be, and see who has taken it. If it isn't your account, and the person doesn't want to give up their username, simply make some alterations to it. If it is your account, just go back to that account, and either change the name of it or make sure you deleted it properly.
