Is it always 30 days of fasting?
So because of the lunar calendar, sometimes you go by 29 days, and sometimes it's 30 days. Depending on the moon phase.
How do I convert to Islam and be a Muslim?
There's a statement that needs to be said, and that statement comes with action and comes with application in your life. The shahada, the testimony, the test application—there is no creator except Allah, and Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. La ilaha illAllah Muhammadan rasul Allah, that's what you have to do. That's the key to getting into Islam. You say that you're technically a Muslim, but you can't just stay with that statement and not understand what it means and what it implies. When you make that statement, I say, La ilaha illa Allah Muhammad Rasul Allah, that there is no God except Allah and that Muhammad is a servant, and His Messenger, the scholars, translated this statement. What that means is that there is no God worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger, so worthy of worship, you recognize that a lot deserves to be obeyed, and listen to what he says; he deserves to be obeyed. It means submission. So you're submitting your body, your mind, your soul, and your desires to Allah.
What are other acts of worship that I can do in Mecca?
There's one similar to the Hajj, but you don't have to be there for as many days. It involves you walking around the Kaaba seven times, praying, then walking between the mountains of Safa and Marwa, then trimming or shaving your hair for the men. For the women, they're only going to trim a very small portion of their hair. That's the optional version of the Hajj, just like there are five daily prayers, and then we have the optional prayers.
